We are delighted that the charitys research grant awarded to Sheffield is featured in this weeks Mail. Dr Clare Samuelson and her team have been inviting women who have been referred for surgery as a result of very heavy periods to have their platelets analysed. In a number of instances, women have had platelet disorders diagnosed and a new treatment plan that avoids surgery. This is great news and we look forward to the final outcome of this very important research.
If you are suffering from any of the symptoms highlighted in the Mail on Sunday article, then we recommend that you go & see your doctor (yet again!) and take the article with you. Testing for platelet dysfunction is only undertaken in specialist centres, as its not just as simple as taking blood for testing. Unfortunately we cannot give individual advice, but hope that the outcome of this research project funded by The Platelet Charity can make an impact on the daily lives of those with very heavy bleeding.
